Speaking at ICE 2026, Martha Brincat, the Deputy CRO at the Malta Gaming Authority, highlighted the regulator’s characteristically proactive legacy of engaging with the industry.
Compliance is costly for operators – and supervision is costly for regulators, she says. “We need to make sure to focus supervision where the risks are.”
Brincat explains how the Malta Gaming Authority has revised the way it supervises its licensees by focusing on achieving specific outcomes based on data and evidence, rather than process for the sake of process.
She notes the need to look beyond just the risk profile of individual operators to also identify risks within wider trends, based on evidence, audit findings, supervision, and collated licensee reporting.
“We want to make use of the evidence we have to drive supervisory efforts that are more targeted, more efficient, and ultimately more effective at helping both operators and ourselves.”
