Svenska Spel reported year-on-year growth across net gaming revenue and net profit during its 2025 financial year despite the shutdown of its land-based casino segment following the closure of the final Casino Cosmopol venue in Q2.
Net gaming revenue during the 12 months through to 31 December 2025 amounted to SEK7.69 billion ($848.1 million). This was 2% more than the previous financial year, figures from Svenska Spel showed.
Aside from revenue growth, the group saw operating profit increase 10% to SEK2.54 billion, while net profit was 11% higher year-on-year at SEK1.96 billion.
Svenska Spel bids farewell to land-based casinos
Financial growth came in a year when Svenska Spel officially shuttered its land-based casinos business. This had been in the works for a while, with several venues having shut in previous years. The first to close was the location in Sundsvall, which shut in 2020, followed by casinos in Gothenburg and Malmö in February 2024.
The final venue to close was Stockholm, which shut its doors for the last time in April 2025. This came just weeks after the Swedish government voted to abolish land-based casinos – a move backed by Svenska Spel. Land-based casinos have been officially banned in Sweden since 1 January 2026.
However, despite the loss of this business, two of Svenska Spel’s other segments reported growth in 2025. As such, this offset any losses incurred as a result of the closure, with key financials rising.
“2025 has been a year marked by investments in growth and transformation of technology, organisation and culture to strengthen Svenska Spel and create long-term value,” President and CEO Anna Johnson said. “It has also been the first full year with our strategic goals – the gaming market’s most satisfied customers, healthy gaming and long-term sustainable growth – with progress in all areas.
“Revenue is increasing, while both operating profit and operating margin are higher than the previous year. The equity ratio is strengthening, and we are exceeding our financial targets.”
Digital shift pays dividends for Svenska Spel
Breaking down the group’s performance in 2025, the Tur lottery business again drew the most revenue. In total, the segment generated SEK5.26 billion in revenue during 2025, an increase of 2% from the previous year. The group noted continued player interest in the Eurojackpot game, while the division’s performance was also helped by the launch of new game, Lyckoplatsen.
Elsewhere, revenue in the Sport & Casino segment also climbed 2% year-on-year to SEK2.12 billion. Svenska Spel put this down to growth within the Oddset sports betting brand and its online casino offering. However, performance was slightly hindered by fewer rounds and jackpots of Stryktipset than in 2024.
The Vegas gaming machine business was the only part of Svenska Spel to report a decline, with revenue down 15% to SEK310 million. Svenska Spel said this was due to several factors, including additional responsible gambling measures within the land-based market and more people playing online.
This latter assertion was seemingly backed up by channel sales data. Total online sales for the year topped SEK4.87 billion, a rise of 8% and 63% of overall group sales. In contrast, retail sales fell 6% to SEK2.53 billion and restaurant and bingo hall sales 15% to SEK310 million.
Higher dividend proposed after 2025 growth
Looking towards the bottom line, operating profit was up to SEK2.54 billion, while pre-tax profit for the year climbed 6$ to SEK2.61 billion.
Svenska Spel paid SEK507 million in tax and also discounted SEL136 million in profit from discontinued operations. As such, it ended 2025 with a net profit of SEK1.96 billion, up from SEK1.77 billion in the previous year.
As a result of growth, Sveska Spel proposed paying an increased dividend of SEK1.8 billion for the year. If approved, this would be markedly higher than SEK1.6 billion in 2024.
Strong end to 2024
Annual results were helped by year-on-year growth in the final quarter of 2025. Net gaming revenue in Q4 was 2% higher at SEK2.13 billion, driven by growth in the lottery and online casino products.
Operating profit for the quarter climbed 16% to SEK641 million, while pre-tax profit was up 6% to SEK662 million. Bottom-line net profit for Q4 reached SEK525 million, an increase of 9%.
“I would like to extend a big thank you to all employees at Svenska Spel for everything we have achieved in 2025 and look forward to continuing to deliver joy, excitement and dreams in a safe and easy way in 2026,” Johnson said.
