The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has banned three unlicensed gambling companiesEOD Code SRL, Igloo Ventures SRL, and MIBS NVfor illegally targeting consumers in Sweden.

According to the regulator, these operators used affiliate marketing, advertising banners on Swedish websites, and influencers on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitch to reach Swedish players without holding the necessary national licences.

In a separate move, Spelinspektionen has launched supervisory proceedings against More Tech Group, a licensed operator behind platforms including lottoexperten.se, lottoexperten.com, and superlottoclub.com.

The review will focus on the company’s compliance with several provisions of the Swedish Gambling Act (2018:1138), such as obtaining written consent in telephone sales, adhering to the ban on offering credit, and verifying customer identities against the national self-exclusion register, Spelpaus.

Licensed firms have also come under scrutiny for breaches of responsible gambling and anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, according to a report from SiGMA. Notably, Kindred Group subsidiary Spooniker was fined SEK 10 million (US$1.03 million) and issued a formal warning for failing to adequately assess whether customer transactions were linked to money laundering or terrorist financing.

Other enforcement actions include a SEK 12 million (USD 1.23 million) fine against Videoslots for failing to protect players from excessive gambling, as well as penalties against Glitnor Services and Roar Vegas for deficiencies in responsible gambling practices. These measures are part of a wider push by the Swedish government to strengthen regulatory oversight of the gambling sector.

The National Audit Office recently called out the Gambling Authority for lacking proper inspections and follow-up actions on violations. In response, the government has launched a review of the Gambling Act and pledged to enhance enforcement mechanisms to ensure greater compliance and consumer protection.
