Swedish state-owned gambling operator Svenska Spel reported year-on-year growth in both revenue and profit for its 2025 financial year, even after completing the shutdown of its land-based casino operations.
Net gaming revenue for the 12 months to 31 December 2025 reached SEK7.69 billion ($859.7 million), up 2% compared with the previous year. Operating profit increased 10% to SEK2.54 billion ($284.0 million), while net profit rose 11% to SEK1.96 billion ($219.1 million).
The performance came during a pivotal year for the group, which closed its final Casino Cosmopol venue in Stockholm in April 2025. The move followed earlier closures in Sundsvall in 2020 and in Gothenburg and Malmö in February 2024, and came shortly after the Swedish government voted to abolish land-based casinos, a decision supported by Svenska Spel. Such venues have been formally banned in Sweden since 1 January 2026.
Despite losing its casino segment, Svenska Spel offset the impact through growth in other parts of the business.
“2025 has been a year marked by investments in growth and transformation of technology, organisation, and culture to strengthen Svenska Spel and create long-term value,” President and CEO Anna Johnson said. “It has also been the first full year with our strategic goals – the gaming market’s most satisfied customers, healthy gaming, and long-term sustainable growth – with progress in all areas.
She noted that revenue increased during the year, while both operating profit and margins improved compared with the previous year, highlighting that the company’s equity ratio strengthened and that Svenska Spel exceeded its financial targets.
The Tur lottery division remained the group’s largest revenue generator, producing SEK5.26 billion ($587.5 million) in 2025, a 2% increase year on year. Svenska Spel cited continued strong interest in Eurojackpot and the launch of new game Lyckoplatsen as drivers of growth.
Revenue in the Sport & Casino segment also rose 2% to SEK2.12 billion ($237.1 million), supported by expansion in the Oddset sports betting brand and online casino operations, although results were partly dampened by fewer Stryktipset rounds and jackpots than in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Vegas gaming machine business saw revenue fall 15% to SEK310 million ($34.7 million). The company attributed the decline to stricter responsible gambling measures in land-based venues and a broader shift toward online play.
Online sales climbed 8% to SEK4.87 billion ($544.6 million), accounting for 63% of group revenue, while retail sales dropped 6% to SEK2.53 billion ($282.9 million). Sales from restaurants and bingo halls fell 15% to SEK310 million ($34.7 million).
On the back of the improved performance, the operator proposed a dividend of SEK1.8 billion ($201.3 million) for the year, up from SEK1.6 billion ($178.9 million) previously, subject to approval.
“I would like to extend a big thank you to all employees at Svenska Spel for everything we have achieved in 2025 and look forward to continuing to deliver joy, excitement, and dreams in a safe and easy way in 2026,” Johnson said.
