According to a new report published by Apuesta Legal Chile, interest in online betting has not declined despite the blocking of websites using the “.cl” domain. Instead, traffic appears to have been redirected toward international “.com” platforms.

The data shows that the regulatory push led by the Supreme Court did not eliminate Chileans’ interest in online betting; it simply diverted the flow, turning the country into one of the largest sources of traffic for offshore operators.

This comes amid renewed controversy at the start of the National Championship, following sponsorship announcements between football clubs and betting operators.

The analysis opens an interesting angle for the industry, as the evidence suggests that Chilean users did not abandon the habit—they simply changed routes, accessing international betting sites beyond the immediate reach of local restrictions.

Chile redirects online consumption

When faced with local barriers, audiences migrated en masse to international “.com” websites operating outside the immediate scope of domestic enforcement.

This trend is confirmed by December 2025 data obtained exclusively by Apuesta Legal Chile via SimilarWeb.

The case of Betano is emblematic: Chile accounted for 39.82% of total traffic to betano.com, making it the operator’s largest source of visits worldwide.

Rather than preventing access, the observed dynamics suggest that the Chilean market reorganized and found alternatives.

This presents a direct challenge to regulatory enforcement efforts aimed at containing the offering within national borders, while facing an audience that remains active and willing to access platforms through international channels.

The data demonstrates that the barriers did not suppress demand but instead pushed it outside the regulated perimeter.

Betano’s situation is not isolated; the same pattern is repeated across other major international operators with Spanish-language offerings.

In the case of Novibet, Chilean users also lead: 38.59% of traffic recorded on novibet.com in December came from Chile, far surpassing other key markets for the brand, such as Greece (25.44%) and Ecuador (18.94%).

In practice, these figures show that even amid a tougher regulatory environment, the Chilean user base remains highly active and, in many cases, more connected to international domains than to any local presence.

Chile’s strength is also evident on globally oriented platforms whose traffic is spread across dozens of countries.

This is the case with Stake, one of the largest names in the international market: in December 2025, Chile ranked among the top sources of traffic to stake.com, accounting for 3.11% of visits, in a ranking led by Canada (29.87%) and India (10.35%).

Although this percentage is lower than that seen for Betano and Novibet, it is particularly significant given that Stake’s audience is highly dispersed worldwide—and even so, Chile appears with enough weight to rank among its most representative markets.
