The Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, is preparing to open its first major expansion in late March, nearly two years after breaking ground on the $1 billion development off Interstate 85, about 35 miles west of Charlotte.
The March debut represents the first permanent expansion beyond the temporary gaming facility currently operating at the site. More than 900 construction workers are on site as work continues around the clock.
Phase one to add 1,300 slots, 22 table games
The initial phase will introduce 1,300 slot machines and 22 live table games, according to Trent Troxel, vice president of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority. A bar and restaurant area will also open as part of this stage.
Electronic table games and slot machines have already been delivered to the property in advance of the launch.
“This is a catapult to get us for the next seven generations,” Troxel said, as reported by WCNC. “Growing up, I didn’t have those same opportunities, so we have been truly blessed.”
The casino site sits along a corridor that sees more than 4,000 drivers pass each day, providing highway visibility as the property transitions from a temporary facility to a permanent resort operation.
Full casino floor and hotel planned for 2027
The main casino floor, spanning seven acres on a single level, is scheduled to open in spring 2027. At full build-out, the gaming floor is expected to include 3,000 slot machines and more than 100 table games. Plans also call for a cage, a high-limit area, multiple restaurants, and a 24-hour cafe.
A 385-room hotel is planned above the casino floor, positioning the property as a destination resort serving both local and regional markets.
Chuck Kilroi, a consultant on the project with Delaware North, said the completed property will carry a four-diamond designation.
“It will be one of the best casinos in the country,” Kilroi said. “Not just people who gamble, but people who like to eat, enjoy themselves.”
When construction is complete, the Catawba Two Kings Casino is expected to employ more than 2,000 people, adding to the region’s hospitality and gaming workforce.
