The second day of SBC Summit Rio 2026, held at Rio de Janeiro’s Riocentro venue, maintained the intense pace of debates and networking that marked the event’s opening, with an agenda focused on the next steps for Brazil’s regulated online betting market.

Executives, regulators, and industry experts gathered across several panels to discuss topics ranging from technological innovation and payments to sports integrity, marketing, and player retention.

With the Brazilian market entering its second year under the new rules, many discussions focused on how to transform the initial phase of regulation into a cycle of sustainable growth for operators, suppliers, and affiliates.

An event that has evolved alongside the market

For those who have followed the event since its first editions, its evolution over the years reflects the broader trajectory of the iGaming industry in Brazil.

When the first SBC Summit Rio was held in 2024, the Brazilian market was in a very different phase than it is today. The Betting Law (14.790/2023) had already been approved, but the regulatory framework had not yet come into force.

At that time, much of the discussion revolved around expectations: what the regulated market would look like, which rules would be adopted by the government, and which paths operators and suppliers should follow.

With regulation now implemented, the landscape seen in the 2026 edition reveals a sector searching for maturity. Debates are now less focused on projections and more on the practical experiences of companies already operating under the established rules.

Even so, some concerns continue to resurface. One of the most frequent is the illegal market, a topic that had already dominated discussions at last year’s edition and continues to feature prominently in industry conversations. The persistence of this debate indicates that, even with rules in place and authorities seeking ways to combat illicit activity, the presence of unlicensed operators remains a challenge.

Legal uncertainty was also highlighted throughout the event, driven by successive proposals from both Congress and the Executive branch to increase taxation on betting operators.

At the same time, new topics are emerging in industry discussions. Among them is the debate around prediction markets, a subject raising questions about possible regulatory and competitive impacts on the Brazilian market.

Organizers evaluate the edition positively

Throughout the second day, the activity in the exhibition area and conference rooms reinforced the perception that the event continues to consolidate its position as one of the main industry gatherings in Latin America.

SBC's Dennis Algreen

Dennis Algreen, Senior Director of Marketing at SBC, gave a positive assessment of this year’s edition.

It was a great success. We managed to increase the level of participation, both in terms of seniority and relevance, as well as in numbers. I think 95% of the regulated operators are here. And that’s really what drives everything. So yes, we’re very happy,” the executive told Yogonet.

The next edition of the event already has a confirmed date: March 2–4, 2027, once again in Rio de Janeiro.
