MGM Resorts International is seeking to expand its exposure in Thailand through a partnership with Thai retail developer EM District, which includes hosting Thai business delegations in Macau and promoting Macau tourism in major Bangkok shopping centers.

The partnership was highlighted this week as MGM hosted more than 50 Thai business leaders at its Macau resorts, with the visit concluding in a gala dinner on Thursday at MGM Cotai attended by company executives and officials from the Macao Government Tourism Office, Inside Asian Gaming reported.

EM District manages three major retail complexes in Bangkok — Emporium, EmQuartier, and Emsphere — which will serve as key platforms for promoting Macau to Thai visitors.

According to MGM, the initiative supports the Government of Macau Special Administrative Region’s efforts to attract more international tourists while strengthening Southeast Asia as a key source market.

During their visit, the delegation explored MGM’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) facilities and received briefings on a cross-border exhibition model jointly developed by Macau and Hengqin. Delegates also joined guided art tours at MGM properties and visited several of Macau’s cultural landmarks, including Senado Square, A‑Ma Temple, Kuan Tai Temple, Kun Iam Temple, and Taipa Village.

Dr. Iwan Dietschi, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at MGM, said the company continues to broaden its global reach in line with Macau’s development strategy. “Thailand has become a remarkable market at MGM,” he said. “In 2025, we saw a 26% year-on-year increase in Thai hotel guests compared to 2024.”

Meanwhile, Ittirit Ratanadaros Umpujh, Managing Director of Emporium, said the partnership reflects shared ambitions between EM District and MGM.

“At EM District, we take pride in being ‘Extraordinary’. MGM shares the same values, and we see tremendous potential in Macau, which is fast becoming a world-class hub for lifestyle and high-end entertainment,” he said. “Being part of this evolution alongside a visionary partner like MGM gives us great confidence in the path ahead.”

He added that EM District looks forward to strengthening cooperation between the Thai business community and MGM while setting new benchmarks for international partnerships.
