The fourth edition of the SiGMA Africa conference concluded at Cape Town’s GrandWest, with the event set to return next year with a slight shift in timing to the month of February.

The event brought together regulators, gaming companies and industry stakeholders from across Africa for networking sessions, workshops and panel discussions focused on industry growth and regulation.

Organisers said attendance is expected to continue rising, with around 3,000 delegates projected for the 2027 edition, compared with 2,700 in 2026.

More than 20 regulatory authorities from across the continent attended the conference, while government officials, including South Africa’s Minister of Tourism for South Africa and the Deputy Mayor, participated in the opening ceremony and delivered remarks on regulation, innovation and the economic impact of the gaming sector.

Conference sessions examined themes including trust-driven growth, early intervention to tackle problem gambling and the adoption of new technologies across the industry.

Delegates also took part in networking activities such as a wine tour in the Durbanville valley near Cape Town and a safari experience. An exclusive golf tournament for senior executives was held at King David Mowbray Golf Club, with a Rolex watch awarded to the winner.

The event concluded its first day with the SiGMA Awards ceremony, which recognised companies including Digitain, 22Bet, SOFTSWISS, Alea, Melbet and BetConstruct for achievements in the gaming sector.

A special award backed by Women in Gaming Africa recognised Valentina Bagniya for her contributions to the industry. Another category, the Hall of Game, honoured regulators, policymakers and executives in the African gaming sector.

The evening also featured a charitable art auction supporting projects run by the SiGMA Foundation, which focuses on healthcare and education initiatives.

On the exhibition floor, the Betora VIP lounge hosted football figures including Christian Karembeu, Claude Makélélé, Ludovic Giuly, Pierre Issa and Robert Pirès, marking the first time five football legends appeared together at a SiGMA event.

Organisers also promoted their upcoming summit in São Paulo, which is expected to attract 18,500 delegates, more than 250 speakers and over 400 exhibitors and partners.

“Four years in and this is an event that never fails to surprise us – and in all the best ways,” organizers said. “We’re signing off from Cape Town’s GrandWest with reluctance, but the good news is we’ll be back next year, with the event shifting slightly to the month of February. “
