The Buenos Aires Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) has introduced a resolution that will allow horse racing agencies in the province to register bettors for online gambling.
The resolution “authorizes horse racing agencies in the Province of Buenos Aires to register bettors with licensed online gambling operators.” This activity will be carried out through adhesion contracts between the horse racing agencies and the licensees, either directly or through the Argentine Chamber of Turf Agencies (CAAT).
According to the resolution, agencies will be permitted to allocate a dedicated space to register bettors and to provide the appropriate technological means so that customers can place bets on online platforms if they wish. This designated area may not exceed 40% of the total floor space of the premises where the horse racing agency operates.
The Institute will be responsible for establishing the guidelines and standards for branding and advertising that online gambling licensees may carry out within horse racing agencies for promotional purposes, which must be applied uniformly across all locations.
The IPLyC’s decision responds to a request submitted by the Argentine Chamber of Turf Agencies, which last year sought authorization to implement an in-person modality for online gambling products authorized by the IPLyC within the province’s network of horse racing agencies.
The provincial institute justified its decision based on the current situation faced by the sector, in light of global technological advances that have driven growth in online gambling. In this context, the need to expand the activities of horse racing agencies was identified, allowing them to participate in the online gambling process by registering customers as bettors for licensed operators.
