A new mobile app that has sought to “support both consumer protection and market sustainability” in the UK is primed for launch in October.

GamScore, developed by ex-Betfair and Rewards4Racing executive Josh Apiafi and Phill Adams, founder of AI powered UKGC-licensed B2C esports tote Punt, has been marketed as a well-being app for gamblers, which provides real-time insights into their activity.

The app pledges to identify early-stage risk, using proprietary AI-driven behavioural science, insights and educational tips. A statement announcing the product on Friday, said GamScore, which will update throughout the day in real-time, would also seek to educate players on their black-market activity and the risks of using offshore products.

GamScore users will be able to track compliance actions

Later iterations of the app will also enable users to track their compliance activity across operators, enabling them to keep up to date with required regulatory documents, to prevent the desire to move offshore.

Developers have said GamScore has “answered the UKGC’s call for innovative technical solutions that the whole industry can support”.

“GamScore believes this will support the government’s aims of balancing consumer protection with the long-term health of the domestic betting and gaming industries,” it said.

Apiafi, chair for GamScore, said the app would provide bettors with a live feed that can update three times a day, “identifying adverse activity quickly and efficiently with educational nudges and content”.

He added: “For operators, GamScore offers a lower-friction, user-controlled alternative to traditional static, point-in-time credit checks.”

The product is also open to investment opportunities.

In recent weeks the UK Gambling Commission’s financial risk assessment policy, which has yet to be adopted formally after a pilot programme, has faced scrutiny for causing too much friction for players.

In a recent speech, the GC’s Tim Miller defended the policy and reassured the sector that high-spending gamblers will not need to hand over detailed financial documents as part of the programme.
