Argentina has become the team most Brazilians plan to support following Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a survey commissioned by Superbet and conducted by the QualiBest Institute.

The survey found that 17% of Brazilian respondents now intend to support Argentina through the final stages of the competition, BNL Data reported. Norway, the team responsible for eliminating Brazil, ranked second with 16% of the preference, followed by France (11%), Spain (8%), and England (6%). Meanwhile, 18% of respondents said they remain undecided about which team they will support.

The findings are notable given the longstanding football rivalry between Brazil and Argentina, one of the most intense in South American football. Argentina also enters the tournament’s closing stages as the defending World Cup champion, having won the previous edition.

Respondents were also asked which player they want to see win the World Cup. Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland tied for first with 21% each, while Kylian Mbappé received 12%. Messi, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players, is seeking to lead Argentina to another World Cup title. Haaland, meanwhile, played a decisive role in Brazil’s elimination by scoring both of Norway’s goals in the knockout match.

The survey was conducted online from July 7 to 8, 2026, among 808 Brazilian internet users aged 18 and older from different regions and socioeconomic groups across Brazil. According to QualiBest, the sample represents the profile of Brazilian internet users.

Data were collected through a quantitative online questionnaire using the QualiBest platform. Participants were drawn from the institute’s proprietary research panel, which includes approximately 250 registered panaelists who regularly participate in studies on a wide range of topics.
