Online Gaming technology provider GR8_TECH will host a closed-door benchmarking session next month to help betting operators analyse their performance during the FIFA World Cup and compare results against anonymised industry data.
The online session, titled “The Locker Room: World Cup Numbers”, is scheduled for August 20 at 4:00 p.m. CEST and will be led by Dinos Doxiadis, the company’s Head of Sportsbook Business.
The session will present anonymised benchmarks alongside post-tournament platform data covering sportsbook margins, player behaviour, customer retention and platform performance during periods of peak demand.
According to preliminary aggregated data from the company’s platform, operators recorded an average tournament margin of more than 12%, while average stakes during the knockout rounds were 53% higher than in the group stage. Average stakes placed on the World Cup final were 89% above the tournament average.
According to the company, betting activity was concentrated around a handful of national teams, with matches involving Spain, Argentina, England and France accounting for 42% of total World Cup turnover. Argentina attracted the highest share of bets at 12.5% of all wagers, while Spain finished just 0.09 percentage points behind Argentina in turnover.
GR8_TECH’s platform settled more than 500,000 bets within one minute of the final whistle of the World Cup final, highlighting the processing demands placed on betting systems during major sporting events.
The benchmarking session will examine topics including live betting, bet builders, margin and staking trends, acquisition and player reactivation, customer retention after the tournament, geographic performance, operational challenges and priorities for future sporting events.
“The World Cup generates a huge amount of data, but the value comes from understanding what sits behind it,” Doxiadis said. “This session is about identifying the patterns operators might miss in their own reporting, challenging assumptions, and turning one month of World Cup activity into better decisions for future events.”
