Berlin, New Hampshire’s planning board has approved a site plan for a proposed Revo Casino and Social House charitable gaming venue at the former Northland Restaurant and Dairy Bar on upper Main Street.
The Northland Restaurant and Dairy Bar closed in 2021. The proposed development by Salem NH Ventures LLC, led by Stefan Huba under the Revo Casino brand, would include a sit-down restaurant with 42 service seats, 14 bar seats, and an outdoor patio.
Revo Casino already operates charitable gaming venues in Conway, Dover, Keene, West Lebanon and Manchester.
The plans include a new entrance to the parking lot intended to make access easier, improvements to the natural landscape, new sidewalks and changes to lighting. The plans also call for the site not to have a flashing sign during evening hours.
The project received a waiver allowing 69 parking spaces, three fewer than the 72 required under Berlin’s zoning regulations, reports The Conway Daily Sun.
Huba said the casino would support more charities in Berlin, while several residents backed the proposal, citing its potential to help revitalise the local economy and support non-profit organisations.
Richard King of Jericho Road said he expected the project to benefit the area.
“I think it’s going to be a big plus for this area,” King said. “I know I’ve heard nothing but good about the one in Conway.”
Mark Evans, who lives across from the former dairy bar and operates a chiropractic office nearby, also supported the development despite reservations about having a casino as a neighbour.
“I can’t say the casino is my first choice as a neighbor,” Evans said, “but I’m definitely happy to see the project going forward.”
Construction timing was also discussed at the planning board meeting, with civil engineer Brian Pratt stressing the need to complete paving and other work before winter. “Time is of the essence,” Pratt said.
No opening date or project cost was disclosed.
