stroPay is partnering with Sri Lanka T20 team, foraying into cricket sponsorship, the company announced on Tuesday.
The partnership marks the first time the online payment solutions provider sponsors a cricket team that will participate in the International Cricket Council’s T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, from Oct. 17 to Nov. 14, 2021.
“While we have a heritage of partnerships in football, we are thrilled to be foraying into sponsoring international cricket, a sport which is a passion in the Indian sub-continent transcending all social, economic and cultural backgrounds, with millions tuning in to watch the matches,” said Mikael Lijtenstein, CEO of AstroPay.
Lijtenstein further said AstroPay has “extensive experience” within emerging markets, with the new deal set to provide the company with an “excellent opportunity” to bolster brand awareness in India and the wider sub-continent, which remains an important market for its operations.
As part of the deal, AstroPay will have its logo printed on the Sri Lanka team’s jersey, in the leading arm, and in the front of their training bib. The business’ logo will also be displayed on the team’s website and social media channels.
“We welcome AstroPay into our fold, and I am confident that the firm will derive excellent brand exposure by partnering with Sri Lanka National T20 Team during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The International Cricket Council’s T20 World Cup is organized by cricket’s governing body, the ICC, and currently consists of 16 teams. It comprises the top ten teams from the rankings at the given deadline and six other teams chosen through the T20 World Cup Qualifier. The Sri Lanka T20 team has played three T20 World Cup finals, having won the 2012 one.
