Minneapolis-based online technology company SharpLink Gaming is partnering with AR-centered sports fan platform Quintar, both parties announced on Tuesday. Resulting from the deal, the businesses will integrate their respective technologies to produce “an AR experience that combines live sporting events with real-time sports betting,” according to a press release.

The new development has been described as an “immersive, personalized” sports betting experience. SharpLink’s C4 sports betting conversion technology will be integrated with Quintar’s Q.reality AR solution to offer sports betting to fans, whether they are at the events or viewing live action from home.

Silicon Valley company Quintar, founded by former Intel Sports executives Sankar “Jay” Jayaram and Jeff Jonas, focuses on Augmented Reality experiences for live sports and entertainment events. Its platform combines long-range registration to place accurate, dynamic AR content on the field, and live stereoscopic streaming

This allows content creators and rights holders to deliver personalized experiences for fans through a number of devices. Moreover, solutions like e-commerce, sports betting, games and NFT marketplaces can also be integrated into the platform to further enhance engagement.

SharpLink’s team will work with Quintar to create a fully turnkey platform that will allow sports bettors to participate in live sports events via AR, check game data, compare betting lines, socialize with friends, and place bets with multiple sportsbook operators.

While Quintar will be providing its proprietary Q.reality platform, SharpLink will integrate its C4 engine. Moreover, SharpLink will architect the backend gamification features, which include registration, scoring, grading and leaderboard, among other technical elements.

Meanwhile, Quintar will be in charge of developing the interactive AR elements, which will be synchronized to playing surfaces and can be viewed on mobile devices at the sporting venue, or streamed via 3D video to a table-top for home use. The new platform will be able to integrate into iOS or Android apps, or into an exclusive app built around a specific AR device.

“This is truly game-changing innovation at its finest,” said Rob Phythian, Co-Founder and CEO of SharpLink. “It will result in SharpLink and Quintar delivering sports fans with an unprecedented, interactive, game-day experience when engaging with and betting on their favorite sports, teams and players.”

The CEO of the technology company, which connects sports fans and leagues to relevant sports betting content via proprietary conversion solutions, further said the opportunity in AR-enhanced online sports betting “could be highly disruptive to the industry.” Moreover, the partnership could provide both parties with meaningful growth opportunities in the long term.

The partnership aims to take advantage of the growth of the global Extended Reality market, which includes AR, and which is expected to exceed $125 billion by the end of 2026. “When combined with the forecasted $150 billion market opportunity in U.S. sports betting, the long-term value proposition presents explosive growth potential for enterprising companies taking the lead,” said Jayaram, CEO of Quintar.

“Sports fans are becoming increasingly demanding and expect entertainment, fun and information alongside their desired content and viewing experiences,” added the executive. “Marrying in-game sports betting with the thrill of AR is, in our opinion, an obvious combination and one that is going to have a measurable impact on the world of sports for years to come.”
