The Mississippi Gulf Coast has seen the most profitable year for its casinos yet, bringing in more revenue than in past years. Coast casinos shattered revenue records for 2021, according to the annual gross gaming report released by the state’s Gaming Commission.

Statewide, Mississippi casinos brought in nearly $2.7 billion last year. Of that, the coastal casinos contributed to more than half of the total revenue, earning more than $1.6 billion.

The amount brought in by these properties surpasses the previous record set in 2019 when just over $1.3 billion was grossed.

That high was followed by 2020’s coronavirus restrictions and shutdowns, which forced the casinos to close for more than two months. Back then, Mississippi casinos brought in just under $1.8 billion, which was the lowest combined total for casinos in the state since 1995.

Back in November, the Mississippi Coast launched mobile sports betting for the first time with BetMGM’s sportsbook at  MGM Resorts International’s Beau Rivage in Biloxi, becoming Coastal Mississippi’s first casino to offer on-premise mobile sports wagering, thus becoming the second destionation for bettors to access the betting platform, joining Gold Strike in Tunica
