As reported by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, the state’s six casinos combined generated nearly $179 million in gaming revenue last month, contributing $73.4 million to the state.

The total represents an increase of $6.3 million compared to May 2021, accounting for a 3.7% rise. The figure is second only to July 2021, when the casinos generated $180 million in gaming revenue.

The gaming revenue totals for May 2022 saw MGM National Harbor lead with $76 million, an increase of 11.1% from May 2021. Live! Casino & Hotel followed with $62.7 million, in a 2.2% rise year-over-year.

Horseshoe Casino came in third with $17.7 million, decreasing 9.4%. Ocean Downs also saw a drop, making $8.5 million last month, 1.1% less than May 2021. Hollywood Casino won $8.2 million, lowering its numbers by 3.2% compared to the same month last year. Last in the report came Rocky Gap Casino, with $5.6 million raked in in May, decreasing 5.5% compared to May 2021.

Contributions from last month’s casino gaming revenue gave the Education Trust Fund $53.4 million. Casino gaming revenues also support local communities and jurisdictions home to casinos, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

The monthly report also shows a surplus compared to April 2022’s numbers, as the six casinos saw a total of $171 million in the fourth month of the year, which was, at the same time, the fourth best-month on record. Total casino gaming revenue in fiscal year to date thus far is at $1.8 billion, 16.1% up from the comparable period in 2021.
