The organizers of Gaming in Spain 2023 announced that the conference will be held on Thursday, May 18, in Madrid, with the event set to address the scope of the new Royal Decree on safe gaming environments. Mikel Arana, the Director-General of the Spanish regulator General Directorate of Gaming Regulation (DGOJ), will be part of the event.

The conference, to be held in the prestigious Castellana 81 building (BBVA Tower), will also bring together Juan Espinosa, former Director-General of the DGOJ; Santiago Asensi, Managing Partner of Asensi Abogados; Peter Marcus, Director of Operations of Entain Group; David Henwood, Director of H2 Gambling Capital; José Antonio Giacomelli, Director General of MGA Games; and Xavi Muñoz, partner of the ECIJA law firm; among others.

Regarding the topics to be discussed, officials noted that the Royal Decree 176/2023, proposed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and which obliges operators in the gaming sector to “create safer gaming environments,” aiming at the protection of the “most vulnerable” players, will be on the agenda.

“This Decree introduces an extensive set of duty of care provisions that obligate licensed gambling operators to take additional preventive and remedial measures to protect their players against harmful gambling behavior,” the event’s organizers explained.

The organizers also invite attendees to learn about the “latest regulatory and technical information on how to implement the provisions of the Royal Decree on Safer Gambling.”
