The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has announced that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming along with fantasy contests during April was $476,7 million, an increase of 3.27% compared to revenue in April last year.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Board include slot machines, table games, iGaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs). During the month, Hollywood Casino at Penn National placed first among venues offering gaming at $74.4 million, a 13.5% increase from $65.5 million posted the same month last year.  

The top five list is completed by Valley Forge Casino Resort ($63.8 million), Parx Casino ($55.2 million), Wind Creek Bethlehem ($47.7 million), and Rivers Casino Philadelphia ($45.9 million)Of those venues, Valley Forge posted revenue increases of 11.3%, while Parx Casino, Wind Creek, and Rivers Casino recorded decreases of 3.15%, 3.56%, and 6.51%, respectively.

The Board has also provided a synopsis of year-over-year revenue by types of games. Retail slots in April contributed the most to total revenue at $213 million, a slight 2.24% decrease from April last year. iGaming slot revenue provided $95.6 million, significantly up (24.6%) year-over-year, while tables revenue posted $84.3 million, down 7.78%.

iGaming tables revenue had a solid month in April, driving $38 million, up 16.09% from the same period in 2022. Additionally, sports wagering revenue during the month also saw a 10% increase with $37 million. Meanwhile, VGTs revenue decreased by 5.77% to $3.5 million, iGaming poker revenue decreased by 6.96% to $2.7 million, and fantasy contests decreased by 9.35% to $1.5 million.

While Parx Casino led retail slots, despite a 7.04% revenue drop to $33.2 million, Wind Creek Bethlehem placed first for retail table games with $21.5 million in revenue, a 5.8% decrease. Meanwhile, total internet games (iGaming slots, table games, and poker) revenue was led by Hollywood Casino at Penn National, which was responsible for $58.4 million of the $137.2 million in statewide revenue.

Lastly, when it comes to sports betting, Valley Forge Casino Resort took the lead with $225.6 million in handle and $21.3 million in revenue. Monthly statewide handle amounted to $572.1 million, with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows ($157.7 million handle) and Hollywood Casino Morgantown ($44.1 million handle) completing the top 3 venues for the vertical.

According to Pennsylvania’s regulator, total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $195.6 million during the month.

Last month, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board levied $147,500 in fines for violations that occurred at three casinos. Mount Airy, operator of Mount Airy Casino Resort in Monroe County, was fined $120,000 for failure to timely submit internal audit plans, while Downs Racing, operator of Mohegan Pennsylvania casino in Luzerne County, received a fine of $20,000 for two incidents in which supervisory employees worked without the proper Board-issued permit. 

Lastly, Sugarhouse HSP Gaming, operator of Rivers Casino Philadelphia, was handed a $7,500 fine for not properly notifying its security and surveillance staff along with law enforcement about an alleged cheating incident at a table game involving marked cards.
