Las Vegas is ranked 11th in a nationwide survey that has analyzed the worst city for hotel service in the US. The survey conducted by Planetware.com analyzed nearly 8 million reviews on TripAdvisor of over 9,000 hotels in 95 cities nationwide.

The survey’s key findings show that 10% of all Las Vegas hotels have TripAdvisor reviews with 1 or 2 stars. Furthermore, two Nevada cities including Las Vegas (No. 56) and Reno (No. 65) made the list of cities with the worst hotel reviews.

As per the survey, the cities with the highest percentage of bad reviews, 1- or 2-stars out of five, were considered the worst. The survey featured two rankings including cities with the worst hotels and cities with the worst service.

The website elaborates: “A good hotel stay goes beyond a guest’s experience in the room. Those working the front desk can also play a large role in the overall experience. As part of our analysis, we combed through the millions of reviews to find mentions of the staff and customer service.”

The survey also found that the most common bad reviews complained about an odor of smoke in the room, not enough toilet paper, thin walls and bed bugs. Other top complaints included broken or dusty toilet seats, a musty smell and black mold among others.

Las Vegas was ranked 11th for worst service with 15.4% of negative reviews. Topping the list among the worst-ranked hotels for service was Miami Beach, Florida, with nearly one in five negative reviews (19.1%). Montauk, the resort destination on the eastern tip of New York’s Long Island, ranked second at 17.8%.

As for the cities with the worst hotels, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina placed first, while  Atlantic City and Virginia Beach, Virginia, tied for number two.
