Casino and resorts company Wynn Resorts has bolstered its Board of Directors with the strategic addition of industry veteran Paul Liu. With his extensive expertise in the Asia-Pacific entertainment and hospitality sectors, Liu’s appointment is set to add weight to the company’s endeavors and focus in the region.

Starting from August 3, 2023, Liu has taken on the roles of Independent Director and Class I member of Wynn Resorts’ Board of Directors, the company said in a press statement. His arrival enlarges the board to nine people and Liu’s term will run until the 2024 annual meeting of shareholders.

Liu brings valuable expertise to the company, which controls Macau casino operator Wynn Macau, garnered from his extensive background in entertainment, hospitality, and financial services across China and the Asia Pacific region.

Wynn Resorts said that his established track record in fostering guest experiences within the luxury and hospitality fields, coupled with his “unique understanding” of business talent in the Asia Pacific region, will significantly enrich the company and offer an essential perspective to the Board of Directors.

Fluent in Chinese, Liu was previously based in Shanghai, where he was a Partner at Egon Zehnder AG, a consultancy firm focused on executive search, management assessment and board advisory. At Egon Zehnder, Liu led the Services Practice in the Asia Pacific region with a focus on hotels and hospitality, serving multinational and Chinese companies.

He was previously the COO of entertainment firm Anschutz Entertainment Group China and was a founder of the Three On The Bund, a luxury lifestyle destination in Shanghai, where he served as CFO.

Lui is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the John Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Earlier in his career, he spent 14 years in finance at JPMorgan, UBS, Peregrine, and Bank of America, spanning locations in both New York and Hong Kong.

He has an active interest in Sino-American relations and is a member of the National Committee on U.S. – China Relations. Since 2005, he has been actively engaged with the National Committee, contributing to the establishment and coordination of the Barnett-Oksenberg Lecture on Sino-American Relations, a forum held in Shanghai.
