The Cordish CompaniesSports and Social Bethesda celebrated the opening of a new FanDuel in-person sportsbook on September 7th, the date that marked the commencement of the National Football League (NFL) season.

According to The Maryland Daily Record, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony featured ceremonial commentary from FanDuel Vice President of Retail Operations Jeff Lowich; and The Cordish Companies’ Rob Norton, President of Cordish Gaming Group.

Former Washington Redskins football players Santana Moss and Dexter Manley, who placed the honorary first bet, were also part of the debut. The event was emceed by Brian Mitchell, another former Redskins player.

Mike Eaton, Managing Director of Gaming for the Maryland Lottery, presented the official sports wagering license to Carroll Hynson Jr., President of Whitman Gaming, at the event to officially open in-person sports betting at the venue.

FanDuel and Whitman Gaming are collaborating with Sports and Social Bethesda to offer guests in-person betting with self-serve kiosks and a retail window next to a large media wall showing all major sporting events. Earlier in April, the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission approved the sports betting license to Whitman Gaming.

As per the Daily Record, on the inauguration night of the sportsbook, guests got the chance to win giveaway prizes including gift cards, Washington gameday tickets, premier earbuds, free nights at Live Hotel and Casino Maryland, and more.

Sports and Social Bethesda’s nearly 8,000-square-foot space features a variety of live music and special events throughout the week, including what is billed as one of the “best sports watching experiences” in the region with its game-day Sports Watch activations. 

The venue also has state-of-the-art AV technology and boasts an 18-foot LED display at its centerpiece that allows guests to enjoy multiple games and sporting events simultaneously.
