In an announcement at the conclusion of day one of G2E 2023, David Orrick, who currently serves as the Director of Industry Relations at Merkur Gaming, shared his decision to step back from his full-time position, effective as of December 31, 2023.

Orrick has been with Merkur since January 2016 and provided insight into his primary motivation for this decision, citing his desire to allocate more time to his family and to finalize his forthcoming novel, “777 BLUES,” which draws inspiration from the international casino industry and is scheduled for publication in 2024.

Reflecting on the evolving landscape of media and communications within the gaming sector, Orrick remarked on the rapid pace of technological advancements, emphasizing that “technology moves at the speed of software.” He also acknowledged the growth achieved by online gaming within a relatively short span of time.

Additionally, Orrick paid tribute to the late Jens Halle, whom he described as not only his boss and mentor but, above all, a dear friend. He expressed gratitude to the numerous colleagues at Merkur with whom he has collaborated successfully over the past eight years.

There is speculation that Orrick might continue to serve in a consultative capacity for Merkur in the future, as Athanasios “Sakis” Isaakidis, the company’s Chief Executive, International, praising Orrick’s contributions to the Merkur brand.

Isaakidis said: “With his great experience in gaming and his understanding of market needs David Orrick has fulfilled not just his job description but has also played a significant role in many differing decision processes within our group. He is a valuable and well-respected person who is always available to give his opinion and bring his insight to bear.”

The CEO highlighted the “many constructive discussions” that he had over the years with Orrick, who he described as “always fair in his assessments” and who always had the best interest of the company in mind.

“While understanding and fully respecting his wishes on full-time contractual matters I am sure that Merkur will need his skills and insights at various significant times in the future. As I have said before David Orrick always thought of his professional duties with Merkur as his passion rather than just his job,” concluded Isaakidis.
