Kansas has set new records in sports betting handle and revenue in the month of October.
Sports betting handle numbers hit a new record for the second consecutive month, with players wagering $249.7 million in October, marking a 13.9% increase from the previous record of $219.3 million in September. This figure also represented a 31.5% surge compared to October 2022’s $189.9 million.
The breakdown of wagers in October revealed that $240.9 million were placed online, up 19.8% from the September figure of $201 million, marking a new record for mobile sports betting handle.
Total sports betting revenue for October saw a substantial 78% rise to $14.3 million, also setting a new record for Kansas. Mobile betting revenue increased by almost 73% to $13.1 million and retail revenue stood at $1.2 million.
The state’s share of taxes from sports betting surged to $1.4 million, compared to $806,097 in September.
Boot Hill Casino & Resort and DraftKings maintained their online leadership in the Kansas market, generating $6.3 million in online revenue from $114.3 million in bets. Kansas Star Casino and FanDuel followed with $4.8 million in revenue from $67.4 million, and Kansas Crossing Casino and BetMGM secured the third position with $1.6 million in revenue and a $20.8 million handle.
In the retail sector, Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway at Barstool led with revenue of $951,869 from $6.3 million in bets. Kansas Star and its FanDuel retail sportsbook were second with $198,592 off $1.4 million, while Boot Hill and DraftKings claimed the third spot, generating $39,045 in revenue from a $717,662 handle.
For the month, Kansas collected $1.5 million in taxes, with $1.3 million coming from online betting and $122,493 from retail. Sports betting became legal in Kansas’ state-owned casinos after Governor Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 84 into law last year.
