Las Vegas’ Culinary Union announced Wednesday that approximately 2,000 workers have reached tentative five-year contract agreements with the Mirage and Tropicana resorts. The announcement was made on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by Culinary Union 226.

The agreement involves about 1,700 workers from The Mirage, which will be renamed Hard Rock, and 300 workers from Tropicana. Hard Rock acquired Mirage several months ago, planning to transform it into a Hard Rock-branded hotel/casino, including the replacement of the volcano at the entrance with a guitar-shaped hotel.

Hard Rock values the strong relationship we share with the Culinary Union and are happy to have collaboratively worked towards a finalized contract agreement,” Mirage President Joe Lupo said in a statement. “We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our team members over the past year of operating The Mirage.”

The ratified contracts follow previous Culinary Union agreements with MGM, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts on November 22, which resulted in salary increases for 40,000 employees and averted a potential work stoppage.

According to Ted Pappageorge, secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Union, the total compensation of the new contracts is estimated to be about $2 billion over five years. The union stated that these are the largest salary increases ever negotiated in its history, with a 10% increase in the first year and a total of 32% over the life of the contract.

Recently, workers at Four Seasons also voted in favor of a similar contract. The union is currently in negotiations with 23 other hotel-casino operators in Nevada, including 10 on the Strip, 11 downtown, and two in Northern Nevada.
