International Game Technology (IGT) announced Wednesday that it has received a contract extension to continue to supply the UK National Lottery’s core lottery system ahead of the switchover to a new platform and as Allwyn prepares to take control of the lottery next month.
Jay Gendron, IGT COO Global Lottery, said: “We are pleased to continue to support the operation of The National Lottery, working alongside a range of other suppliers and Allwyn.”
Allwyn is set to take over the lottery on February 1st after it secured the fourth National Lottery license in September 2022. The company is replacing Camelot, which has operated the lottery since its launch in 1994.
The extension comes after IGT this month withdrew its legal challenge over the decision of the Gambling Commission to award Allwyn the lottery license. The tech giant was pursuing a claim for damages against Britain’s Gambling Commission, which was dealt a major blow in July last year when the Court of Appeal said IGT did not have legal standing for the claim.
The company had appealed this ruling in September, but asked the court to dismiss the appeal this month. IGT will no longer pursue the damages claim.
Camelot was also seeking a similar legal challenge against the decision to award the license to a rival company. It contested for the license with Allwyn, The New Lottery Company, and Italy’s Sisal.
However, Camelot withdrew its legal bid in September 2022. As a result of this, Allwyn agreed to give up all costs and damage claims against Camelot.
Allwyn acquired Camelot UK in early 2023. It also acquired US-facing Camelot Lottery Solutions (Camelot LS), which has rebranded as Allwyn North America to reflect the purchase. Allwyn has noted the impact of both acquisitions in its H1 and Q3 results. During Q3, consolidated total revenue was up 98%, driven by the double Camelot acquisition.
