Casino operator Wynn Resorts is “closely monitoring the situation” in the Middle East and has confirmed it has contingency plans to protect its employees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) if required, the company told GGRAsia.
The Wynn Al Marjan Island resort project in Ras Al Khaimah, part of the UAE, is being developed in partnership with local investors and is 40% owned by Wynn Resorts. The property is slated to open in spring 2027.
The company’s statement comes in response to rising regional tensions. The Khaleej Times reported on Monday that debris from a drone successfully intercepted by air defence systems had fallen on a residential area of Ras Al Khaimah.
The UAE is one of 14 Middle Eastern nations where the U.S. State Department urged Americans to depart immediately via commercial transportation “due to severe, escalating safety risks” following the weekend’s joint airstrikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel.
After Saturday’s attacks, Iranian forces launched a barrage of drones and missiles throughout the Middle East. Iranian drones and missiles have targeted Dubai, less than 90 minutes’ drive from Ras Al Khaimah, as well as neighbouring Gulf states, including Bahrain and Kuwait.
Wynn Resorts, parent company of Wynn Macau Ltd, said in early December that it had spent or “fully bought out” US$3.4 billion of the Wynn Al Marjan project’s total budget, representing roughly 67% of the US$5.1 billion development cost.
The resort’s 70-floor hotel tower was topped off in December. The property will have 1,550 guest accommodations, including hotel rooms and suites, high-priced villas with beachfront access, 22 restaurants and lounges and retail and meeting spaces.
