Altenar has received approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), allowing the technology provider to supply its sports betting solutions in Alberta.
The approval allows Altenar to support licensed operators ahead of the launch of Alberta’s regulated online gaming market, which is expected on July 13, 2026. Once the market opens, Alberta will become Canada’s second regulated iGaming jurisdiction after Ontario, creating a new regulated environment for operators, suppliers, and players.
Altenar said it plans to offer its sportsbook platform and regulatory experience to operators entering the province as they prepare for launch.
Canadian market expansion
The approval extends Altenar’s presence in North America’s regulated gaming sector. Alberta is expected to become the next regulated Canadian province for online gaming, with operators seeking to attract players from unregulated platforms into licensed offerings.
The company said it intends to provide partners with sportsbook technology designed to support customer acquisition, engagement, and retention as operators compete in the new market.
Matthew Ferrara, Sales Manager at Altenar, said: “Alberta represents one of the most exciting regulatory developments in North America, and we are delighted to be preparing for launch.
For Altenar, the priority is enabling operator partners to establish a strong, competitive foothold in a newly regulated environment, Ferrara added. A key objective will be supporting the transition of players from grey-market platforms to regulated offerings.
According to Altenar, that requires not only a compelling product but also trust, ensuring reliability, competitive pricing, and a consistently high-quality user experience. “If suppliers can help operators deliver that, they’ll play a central role in shaping long-term market dynamics,” Ferrara said.
“In practical terms, success will be measured by how effectively we empower partners with a market-leading sportsbook that drives acquisition, engagement, and retention,” he added.
Altenar said the conditional license approval demonstrates its efforts to meet regulatory and compliance requirements while supplying sportsbook technology to operators in regulated markets.
Founded in 2011, Altenar provides turnkey sportsbook technology for gaming operators. The company offers customizable sportsbook solutions for different markets and regulatory frameworks, with a business model focused on long-term partnerships with operators.
