Casino Guru Academy has launched a free online course on self-exclusion best practices, developed with input from BetBlocker International, to help iGaming operators strengthen player protection and improve responsible gambling measures.
The course, titled Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, provides practical recommendations for designing, reviewing and enhancing self-exclusion systems, including a 30-day implementation guide for operators.
The training was created in response to differences in self-exclusion requirements across jurisdictions, which can create inconsistencies in player protection and operational processes.
The course is based on the Recommended Code of Practice for Online Self-Exclusion, published in 2025 and developed by Dr. Margaret Carran in collaboration with Casino Guru and a team of 10 iGaming professionals.
“We wanted to give operators guidance they can actually use,” Šimon Vincze, Head of Safer and Sustainable Gaming at Casino Guru, said.
“To be clear, we don’t aim to replace local regulation or create a rigid global rulebook. We want to spread the findings on what self-exclusion best practice looks like and how operators can adapt it to fit their market, teams, and players,” he added.
The training promotes a multi-layered approach to player protection, highlighting the role of blocking software, helplines, treatment programmes and other safer gambling resources alongside self-exclusion.
Part of the course was developed with BetBlocker International, a free gambling-blocking tool, to demonstrate how blocking software can complement self-exclusion by helping vulnerable players prevent access to gambling services.
Pedro Romero, the CEO of BetBlocker International, commented on the work: “This course will help operators committed to player protection understand how to provide additional safeguards when a player decides to self-exclude.
“Self-exclusion should be supported by clear signposting to support services and practical blocking tools, which can play an important role in helping people maintain their decision across operators, whether they want to minimise harm or stop completely. BetBlocker International exists to make those protections free, anonymous and accessible to anyone who needs them.”
The course is available free through the Casino Guru Academy website and was presented at iGB L!VE London 2026.
