Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City reopened its casino floor on Tuesday afternoon after a small fire and flooding forced the suspension of gambling operations a day earlier.
The casino resumed slot machine and table game operations at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after damage from an early-morning fire and subsequent flooding disrupted systems supporting gaming activities.
The property shut down gaming on Monday after a fire broke out in a linen closet, while water used to extinguish the blaze caused extensive damage throughout the resort.
According to the Atlantic City Fire Department, emergency crews responded at 5:31 a.m. Monday and found a fire in the linen capture room. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and burning debris, while firefighting efforts led to significant water flow through the property.
The flooding caused a large section of the lobby ceiling to collapse and sent water into elevator shafts and back-of-house hallways, the fire department said.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The disruption forced the cancellation of table games, slot machine operations, sports betting and a slots tournament on Monday.
In a statement posted on Facebook after reopening, Ocean Casino Resort thanked those involved in restoring operations. “Ocean thanks its dedicated team members, partners, and the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement for their swift response to restore operations,” officials said.
