Chile’s Superintendence of Gaming Casinos (SCJ) held a hearing for the submission of technical and financial bids in public tenders to operate casinos in the municipalities of Iquique, Coquimbo, Viña del Mar and Pucón. At the close of the hearing, only two bids had been received.
One bid was submitted by Casino Volcán Pucón S.A. to operate a gaming complex in the city of Pucón, in the Araucanía Region. The other came from Casino de Juegos de Coquimbo S.A. to operate in the city of Coquimbo, in the Coquimbo Region.
Notary Renata González, from Santiago’s 23rd Notary Office, oversaw the hearing, during which no bids were submitted for the casinos in Viña del Mar and Iquique.
In a statement, the SCJ said that, following the receipt of the financial bids, the evaluation stage for the technical bids will begin and will last a maximum of 120 days.

The regulator also said that, because there were no applicants for Iquique and Viña del Mar, it will begin “the processes for both municipalities as soon as possible,” with the special conditions to be defined again and included in the respective Technical Tender Documents.
About the bidders
Casino Volcán Pucón S.A. was formed by a group of former executives from Enjoy, led by former Treasurer Andrés Raggio Guerrero. The company was formally established in May to pursue the operation of the casino in the municipality of Pucón, in the Araucanía Region.
Meanwhile, Casino de Juegos de Coquimbo S.A. is owned by Coquimbo Holdings I SpA and Coquimbo Holdings II SpA, which are controlled by Octium, Fondo de Inversión Privado, an investment fund managed by Alza Administradora General de Fondos. Its partners are Álvaro Alliende and Fernando Zavala.
According to Chilean newspaper La Tercera, Alliende is a civil engineer and former Deutsche Bank executive and former CEO of home automation company Drop. Zavala is also a civil engineer, previously worked as an analyst at LarrainVial, and served as an adviser to the first administration of the late former President Sebastián Piñera.
