SiGMA North America is expected to generate about MXN220 million ($12.89 million) in direct spending for Mexico’s economy when the gaming and technology summit makes its debut in Mexico City from September 1 to 3, according to an Economic Impact Assessment.
The inaugural event is expected to bring together 4,000 delegates, 1,000 operators, 850 affiliates, 150 exhibitors and sponsors, and more than 150 speakers from the gaming, fintech, blockchain, artificial intelligence and emerging technology sectors.
The assessment estimates that delegate spending on hotels, food, beverages, transport, entertainment and other services will contribute about MXN170 million ($9.96 million) directly to the local economy during the event.
Hotel spending is expected to account for about MXN90 million ($5.27 million), with delegates projected to generate approximately 12,600 hotel nights. International visitors are expected to stay an average of 4.5 nights, while domestic delegates travelling from outside central Mexico City are forecast to stay for about three nights.
Hotel expenditure could rise to between MXN130 million and MXN160 million annually by 2030 as attendance grows, according to the assessment.
Delegates are expected to spend about MXN45 million ($2.64 million) on food and beverages during the three-day summit, with average daily spending estimated at MXN3,500 ($205) per delegate.
A further MXN35 million ($2.05 million) is projected to come from local transport, entertainment and other visitor activities, benefiting businesses including restaurants, bars, retailers, transport providers and entertainment venues.
The event itself is also expected to generate local investment before delegates arrive. About MXN48.5 million ($2.84 million) is forecast to be spent on exhibition stand construction, venue rental and related infrastructure, benefiting Mexican suppliers, contractors, logistics providers, production companies and technical specialists.
Combined with delegate spending, this is expected to bring total direct economic expenditure to about MXN220 million during the first edition.
By 2030, the direct economic contribution could rise to between MXN315 million and MXN390 million ($18.46 million to $22.85 million), as attendance increases.
The figures cover direct spending and do not include indirect or induced economic effects such as job creation or additional sales generated through suppliers.
The summit comes as Mexico’s digital economy expands, with internet penetration above 83%, about 72 million gamers and 93% of internet users accessing online services through smartphones, according to the assessment.
Mexico’s online gambling market is projected to nearly double from $970 million in 2025 to almost $2 billion by 2030, representing an annual compound growth rate of about 15%.
The country also ranks among the world’s top 10 for daily visits to online gambling websites, highlighting its growing importance to the digital gaming industry.
SiGMA North America is expected to bring operators, investors, regulators, technology providers and entrepreneurs together to develop partnerships and cross-border opportunities across gaming, fintech, blockchain and artificial intelligence.
The event is also expected to contribute to discussions around Mexico’s regulatory framework, responsible gaming and the development of the country’s digital entertainment sector.
Attendance is projected to rise to between 5,000 and 6,300 delegates by 2030. This growth could strengthen Mexico City’s position as a major destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions while increasing tourism, investment and international exposure.
The summit’s longer-term impact could help position Mexico as a leading Latin American destination for discussions and investment across iGaming, esports, fintech and the wider digital economy.
