Bally’s Atlantic City has appointed veteran casino executive Tom Pohlman as its new president. Pohlman confirmed the appointment on Monday, accepting the position after 15 years in Atlantic City’s Marina District.
“Standing at the legendary intersection of Park Place and the Boardwalk, Bally’s is a property with deep history and tremendous potential,” he said in a Facebook post.
Pohlman said he was looking forward to starting the new role, meeting the Bally’s team, and welcoming guests. “The future is bright, and I’m honored to help lead the next era of Bally’s Atlantic City,” he added.
The appointment brings extensive local casino experience to Bally’s. Pohlman most recently served as general manager of Golden Nugget Atlantic City, a position he held until stepping down in May. During his tenure, he oversaw the 717-room resort, more than 2,200 employees, and its gaming and non-gaming operations.
Pohlman has more than 28 years of leadership experience across hospitality and gaming, including casino operations, surveillance and risk management. His professional profile highlights experience in building high-performing teams, strengthening regulatory and stakeholder relationships, and developing cultures focused on accountability, service excellence and operational integrity, officials said.
His areas of expertise also include profit and loss leadership, large-scale renovations, labour optimisation, and regulatory compliance. Pohlman was the longest-tenured casino general manager in Atlantic City when he left Golden Nugget.
George Goldhoff, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey, said he is glad Pohlman is staying in Atlantic City.
“Great news to see Tom Pohlman land at Bally’s Atlantic City as president,” said Goldhoff, who also is president of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. “He earned a reputation as one of Atlantic City’s steadiest hands during his 15 years at the Golden Nugget, and Bally’s will benefit from that experience and leadership.”
His local market experience comes as Bally’s works to strengthen its position in Atlantic City while its parent company pursues a broader national expansion strategy. Bally’s has been developing plans to grow its casino footprint in markets including New York, Chicago and Las Vegas, placing the Atlantic City property within a broader national portfolio.
Bally’s Corp. has said it is committed to keeping its Atlantic City casino open even as it builds a new one in New York City that will compete with it.
