The GREF General Assembly also elected a new board consisting of senior regulatory officials from around Europe. Founded in 1989, the forum acts as venue where European gambling regulators communicate and collaborate on policy.
The new board comprises seven individuals including the ANJ’s Falque-Pierrotin as chair. Director of the Danish Spillemyndigheden Anders Dorph will act as the group’s vice-president. GB Gambling Commission’s executive director Tim Miller is to work as treasurer.
The Alderney Gambling Control Commission’s general legal counsel Sarah Kelly will assume the role of secretary. Magali Clavie from the Belgian Gaming Commission, Alte Hamar from the Norwegian Lottstift and Kinga Warda from the Malta Gaming Authority will all serve as members of the board.
Assessment of new GREF board
The first assessment of the new board’s activity is to be made in May 2024. This will take place at the next GREF annual conference in Malta.
GREF said that in a context of new market challenges it wishes to strengthen communication between the various European regulators. Its mission is to enable gambling regulators to “better understand” emerging trends and develop legitimate solutions.
“At a time when innovations are accelerating and questioning current regulations, and when public opinion is concerned about the protection of players, the European level is decisive,” said Falque-Pierrotin.
“We face the same questions and our exchanges are fruitful. I believe that the regulators, in the current period of great complexity, have a particular voice to make heard, listening to the various stakeholders and serving the protection of players.”
