A new report by Slotegrator warns that online casinos and sportsbooks must strengthen their defences against a growing wave of AI-powered fraud, as cybercriminals increasingly deploy advanced tools such as deepfakes and synthetic identities.
The report highlights how the iGaming sector has long been a target for fraudsters, who often exploit bonuses and welcome offers for financial gain. With the rise of artificial intelligence, these activities are becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect.
Traditional safeguards such as know-your-customer (KYC) checks are no longer sufficient on their own, as even liveness verification systems can be bypassed using high-quality deepfakes. Fraudsters are also using synthetic identities — fabricated profiles built from stolen personal data — to circumvent security controls.
The company cautions that operators must assume their first line of defence can fail, as criminals continuously adapt their methods and develop new ways to evade detection.
As cybercriminals find more ways to use AI to sneak through ID checks and start scaling their operations, operators need to focus on AI-powered defences. AI tools are no longer optional but essential for managing modern threats.
AI technologies are already being deployed across areas such as user experience, real-time marketing, predictive lifetime value modelling and risk management, but Slotegrator argues that their role in fraud prevention must now be prioritised.
“In the long run, the law of survival of the fittest will apply,” said Olga Ivanchik, Slotegrator COO. “Brands that adapt to the new reality by integrating AI tools will survive the same threats that sink their competitors who tried to keep doing things the old way.”
The report outlines emerging fraud techniques and recommends that operators adopt more advanced AI-driven systems capable of identifying and responding to threats in real time, as the industry faces an increasingly complex security landscape. Download the full report here.
